HOW TO: Clean Makeup Brushes
I've heard that a lot of people think that cleaning makeup brushes is too hard and too much work. I'm here to tell you that it is actually really easy and only takes around 10 minutes from start to finish.
1. You'll need the following:

2. Rinse all of your brushes and gently press them with the towel until they are just damp.
3. Place a small amount of brush cleanser in the bowl.
4. Start with your smallest brushes and swirl it around in the bowl, watching the liquid change colour (yup, that was going on your face!). The big brushes (like the one below) will soak up all of the brush cleanser and you'll be left with an empty bowl, so they should be done last.

5. Once you have given the brush a good clean, take the brush out and swirl on a paper towel. Check out the gunk on my mineral makeup brush!

6. Give the brush a good rinse and repeat the swirl on the paper towel. This will tell you if you need to give it another clean.
To compare, on the left is after using the brush cleanser but before rinsing, and on the right is after rinsing off the brush cleanser:

7. Once you have cleansed and rinsed all of your brushes, give them all a good dry by gently patting them until they are only damp. Ensure the brushes are back in their original shape before drying.

8. The last step is to hang all your brushes over the side of your bathroom sink, table or as in my case, the kitchen bench, so they can be dried from all sides and wont be squashed.

You'll now have beautifully clean brushes to give you the perfect face!
1. You'll need the following:
- Your makeup brushes (of course!)
- A small bowl
- A small hand towel or tea towel
- Paper towel
- Makeup brush cleaner - I use MAC brush cleanser. You only need a small amount and really notice how clean they are afterwards.
2. Rinse all of your brushes and gently press them with the towel until they are just damp.

Here's a money saving tip: rather than using an expensive brush cleaner such as MAC, where you're paying more for the name than the product, try using Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Soap. It can be found at many chain drugstores and places such as Target. It deep cleans your brushes, Beauty Blenders, and sponges like no other brush cleaner around (and trust me, I've tried them ALL). It quickly sucks out every last bit, and will condition your brushes as well.
For dense brushes, such as kabukis and bronzer brushes, hang them with a rubber band wrapped around the handle to dry. This will keep the water from getting into the ferrule and keep them as good as new for years. Another novel product are brush protectors. These are stretchable sleeves you slide over the handle of your brush until they cover the hairs. The are strong enough to support the weight of the brush tipped on end while they dry. They're also great for travel or throwing brushes in your purse without worry about damaging the hairs.
Hope this helps.
Hi Robyn, I've tried lots of different brush cleansers & MAC is the best I've tried so far.
