SPILL: How many lip products do you have in your bag?

I have managed to accumulate the following products since I cleaned out my handbag on Sunday:

My (male) colleagues think it is ridiculous that I have so many lip products in my bag. They are also astounded that I actually own that many pink lip glosses. To be fair, two of them are from A Rose Romance, which is the latest MAC Collection, so they are only new.

What I didn't tell them was that I counted just my MAC lip glosses on the weekend and came out with 40. There are possibly more, but that was all I could find.

Typically, I do my face at home before work and I throw a couple of lip colours in my handbag to use during the day. It's usually always two as I hate being somewhere and deciding I no longer want to wear the colour I left the house in. I've just been really busy this week and I haven't cleaned out my bag.

The MAC Lip Conditioner at the end (in Petting Pink) is always in my bag, hence it's sad appearance.

So ladies, my question for you is -

how many lip products can you find in your handbag?

Name and shame your products!

NEW: CoverGirl Simply Ageless Foundation

As reported last year, Ellen DeGeneres is the latest face of CoverGirl cosmetics, in particular the new Simply Ageless Foundation.

CoverGirl says it is a 'breakthrough formula with Olay Regenerist Serum and SPF 22 stays suspended over fine lines and wrinkles, unlike the leading anti-aging department store foundation that can gather in wrinkles and make skin look older. Clinically shown to provide significant improvement in skin condition in just four weeks.'

I can't comment on the covering wrinkles part (yet), but it has a beautiful texture. It is really soft and feels like you are just applying moisturiser. The added Olay serum seems to make it glide onto your skin.

What I wasn't expecting was to see the cracks in each of the samplers:

I wonder how it would hold up until the bottom of the jar given that they were only very new testers?

Extreme close-up (as close as I could with my iPhone):

CoverGirl Simply Ageless Foundation is available now for around AU$24.95 at Priceline and Big W.

CLAIM: Chocolate Cures Acne

One of the few thing my mother told me (that I listened to at least) was that too much chocolate gives you pimples. Actually, I think it was 'anything sugary', which was her excuse for never letting me have any sweet treats.

One company has come up with a clever claim - chocolate that can cure acne. According to the website, you just need to pop 2-5 of their sugar-free chocolates a day and they say you will have smoother skin.

How does it make it any better than dark chocolate? Good question, I don't know. Dark chocolate has long be touted as the 'good chocolate' as it contains far more flavonoids (antioxidants) than milk chocolate due to the higher level of cocoa. More cocoa = more antioxidants = better for your health.

I don't know exactly what makes this chocolate any different to a regular bar of dark chocolate, other than the lack of sugar. I can't recall ever tasting sugar-free dark chocolate before, and not being a fan of the sugared variety, I am wary to taste it.

This one does have a money back guarantee that it will reduce acne, which I am fairly sure Cadburys don't have.

If you aren't willing to buy into the hype, but you still want to continue your chocolate fix, make it dark chocolate. Lindt, makers of the best chocolate in the world (I think so anyway!) make dark chocolate all the way up to 99% cocoa.

Weekly Roundup #3

Loving

Korres Quince Lip Butter. Awesomely awesome. Must do a review on it next week.

Loathing

The ridiculous way Priceline tape up all their products so they look like bargain bin treats rather than full priced stock. It took me 20 minutes to scrub the sticky residue off my Revlon Matte Eyeshadow. Grr.

Wearing

Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Riviera Blue and Revlon Matte Kohl Eye liner in Midnight Blue. I've tried channelling Beau Garrett in this picture, but fail to pull off the required sexiness.

Wanting

A beauty wardrobe. While fashion lovers may want all their designer shirts and skirts hanging from luxe hangers, I want all my beauty products to be contained in a way that I know what I have and where it is. Have you ever bought something that you didn't think you had only to find that you do in fact have it? I do that. I now have 3 MAC 266 angle brushes. It's not even a helpful brush to have multiples of!

Using

My new from 217 Blending Brush from MAC Cosmetics. Perfect balance of precision and fluffiness.

Eating

My boyfriends salads. He makes a kickass mix of salad greens, capsicum, cashews, corn and sliced ham (or something warm in winter) mixed with Uncle Bens rice. Sounds weird but tastes great & you get all your required protein, carb and salad in one handy bowl!

Hearing

Manhattan by Kings of Leon. It's my favourite from their album & now it is on the radio, I want to listen to it over and over again.

Clicking

Cute Overload. It is one of the websites I go to that always cheers me up. How can puppies not make you smile?!

Eating Beauty Products

I was in Kit Cosmetics on the weekend and I was talking to a couple of the sales assistants and they told me about people eating/tasting/licking the testers - how gross is that?!!!

One person licked the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer compact (AU$52.95 at Kit Cosmetics):

Sure, it may smell like chocolate, but to lick it? Not to mention that it is a tester and all sorts of grubby fingers would have touched it. Ewww.

Another woman decided that as 100% Pure Organic Virgin Coconut Body Scrub (AU$39.95 at Kit Cosmetics) was organic, it would make a nice treat and had a bit of a taste:

Again, eww.

Talking to my girlfriends and it seems that it is not uncommon. Many of them have either heard of it, or have done it themselves. I can't recall ever having the desire to taste something that goes on my face.

A colleague at work tasted the Laura Mercier Hand Creme theorising that as it smelt like almonds and coconut, perhaps it tasted like that too? Needless to say it didn't and she spent the afternoon wiping her tongue on her shirt trying to get the taste out of her mouth!

Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Milk Hand Creme available at David Jones for AU$35

I'm curious - what beauty products have you tasted?

NEW: Maybelline Pulse Perfection Vibrating Mascara

Maybelline is the latest brand to join in the vibrating mascara phenomenon, following Estee Lauder and Lancome. Their claim? Not much different to the others with 7000 vibrations a second and enormously long name, but will most likely be considerably cheaper.

Can it be better than Maybelline Full n Soft? Is it even possible to improve on something so perfect? Only time will tell as I haven't managed to score a tube yet.

Maybelline Pulse Perfection Vibrating Mascara
will be available in the US in June for US$14.95 unless you are one of the lucky few who can nab one from Maybelline online only on May 18. Likely release date in Australia? Aaaaaages away I imagine - at least I still have my Full n Soft!

Freida, Evangeline and Elizabeth Join L'Oreal

Freida Pinto, Evangeline Lilly and Elizabeth Banks have become the latest L'Oreal brand ambassadors, just in time to make the debut at the Canne Film Festival.

I'm a bit meh on Banks, but very excited to see Freida Pinto with a lucrative contract so early into her career.

They are joining the likes of Eva Longoria, Milla Jovovich and Aishwarya Rai.

Weekly Roundup #2

Loving

Wet winter weekends. Perfect for staying in bed, under the doona, all day long.

pic

Loathing

Cold sores. The claim by Zovirax that they stop them from appearing or reduce the severity is bullshit. My eight cold sores, fat lip and inability to eat for the past 5 days are proof of that.

Wearing

Mascara. That’s all that I can manage with a face that looks like its growing a new planet on my lip.

Wanting

A week-long holiday. Any suggestions? I highly recommend Sala Samui in Koh Samui Thailand, amazing place, people are wonderful, food is cheap and delicious.

Using

Lashings of moisturiser. The change in season always reeks havoc with my skin.

Eating

Banana Caramel Cobbler
by the lovely Lorraine at Not Quite Nigella. Two of my favourite foods (bananas and caramel) together – how can you go wrong?!

Hearing

Merrick & Rosso and Kate at Nova 96.9 on my drive to work of a morning. Self depreciatingly funny that makes me laugh out loud. Much better than so-called DJ’s on other stations who seem to get off on being mean to others, including their listeners. There is a talent in making people laugh.

Clicking

PostSecret. One man does an amazing job collating and posting a weekly blog of peoples secrets posted to his mailbox every Sunday. Over 236 million people have visited the site and the owner, Frank, accepts no advertising or income from the site, choosing to donate the money to charity. You can also buy the books over at Amazon.

NEW: Face Boutique Good Skin Starter Kit

85% of girls will have blemishes before the age of 25

Urgh. That depressing fact popped into my inbox last week. What they failed to mention was that some unlucky sods will get them long after the age of 25. That’s a different story for a different day, so let’s get back to those lucky under 25’s...

Designed specifically for young skin, Face Boutique products have been created with an emphasis on quality ingredients and remaining free from nasty chemicals and toxins.

They have just released the Get Started: Good Skin Kit which is designed for those who needs assistance is managing sebum control and tackling enlarged pores, breakouts and hormonal imbalances.

The kit contains:

“peachy clean” foaming facial wash: uses a gentle coconut cleansing base to remove excess oil and help keep skin clear. It contains basil oil for its antiseptic properties and geranium oil which helps to balance oil levels in the skin.

“fresh faced” moisturising gel: is an oil free, gel moisturiser containing Prebiotics to help reduce breakouts by replacing the “good” bacteria in the skin that gets lost due to environmental stresses. It also contains zinc extract to regulate sebum and strawberry extract to tone and condition skin.

“spot-less” blemish gel: is a light, clear gel designed to heal blemishes quickly and easily and is a perfect pencil case staple. Designed to be applied to blemishes as they appear, this gel contains witch hazel and salicylic acid to reduce redness and inflammation.

It also has a booklet containing information on the changes occurring to young skin, and how you should best look after it. All contained in their signature round cardboard packaging with gorgeous images:

Pretty good huh? Now is a great time to get started on a new skin routine as the change in weather usually means a skincare change is required. It is also a great gift idea for those who are just starting to need a skincare routine.

Keep your eyes peeled for a review on the ‘fresh faced’ moisturising gel and ‘in the buff’ body wash – it will be a review with a twist!

The Face Boutique Get Started: Good Skin Kit is available exclusively in Australia at Kit Cosmetics from today for AU$66.95

Sunday Short n Sweet: Makeup in a Flash

Most days, I usually forgo a lengthy stint in front of the mirror for a tiny bit longer in bed. My typical fast face consists of concealer, blush & mascara. I can do in my sleep these days, and feel naked without it.

In this clip, they show you how to create a flawless face with just a few simple products, taking you out the door in only a few minutes.
