Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! I know it isn't a very big deal here in Australia, and I could take or leave the whole candy aspect, but when there is an opportunity to get dressed up and wear amazing face paint, my heart starts to dance.

Every year some of the best makeup artists in the world create spectacular looks for MAC - here are some of my favourites:

You can check out the rest on Facebook along with the video:

BUT! This has to be my absolute favourite - how talented is this woman?!!

Amazing.

REVIEW: Revlon ColorStay Liquid Lipstick

What could be better than a lipstick that you apply in the morning and it lasts all day? According to Revlon, it is the 'ultimate' lip gloss on the market. Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick claims to stick on your lips for up to 12 hours without feathering or fading, all while being moisturising. They use the words 'comfortable' a few times in the product description - strange word. It makes me think that they are saying that it is tolerable. Which it is. Barely.

The verdict? Meh. I found it to be drying and it would migrate to the corners of my mouth leaving a rather sad looking set of lips by lunch. I won't buy another one & I doubt I will use the one I have again.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Lipstick is available from pharmacies & department stores for around AU$26.95

Sunday Short n Sweet: Halloween Looks

I am usually amazed at Petrilude's makeup looks, they are always interesting, well thought out and go WAY beyond my level of talent.

That was until I saw his latest collection of Halloween looks. I've got to say that he has seriously raised the bar.

He has 30 Halloween looks (to date) on his YouTube channel and the leopard mask has to be my favourite. Check it out here:

Happy Halloween!

REVIEW: Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara

In order for any mascara to come close to my beloved Maybelline Full n Soft, it has to be shit hot. I've tested a fair few, and most of them weren't even worthy of writing about. One was so awful, I took it off in the bathroom at work and went mascara-free for the rest of the day, came home and threw it straight in the bin.

The only one so far has been Australis Lash Me Mousse Mascara, if you haven't tried it, I insist that you do - it will rock your world.

Before I tried Maybelline's new mascara Colossal Volum' Express, I was torn. Maybelline make the best mascaras for me, could this stand up to the scrutiny?

I needn't have worried, I'm hooked. Not a single clump could be found, with each lash defined, plumped and reaching for the sky.

I've found that the big brushes work best for me as they get deep into my long lashes and help separate them, which is usually by biggest problem with mascaras. This has one of the biggest brushes I have ever seen.

Panda rating on eyes after shower: 3

The verdict? Excellent. Easy to apply, easy to remove, but stays put. Gives volume and length without being clumpy.

Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara is available in Australia for around AU$17.95

Sunday Short n Sweet: The Perfect Pony for Fine Hair

I envy girls who have thick, voluminous hair as I have shitty thin hair (really, there is no other way to put it). A dose of alopecia has made my already fine hair even moreso, which puts me on the look out for any way I can give my hair a bit of oomph. To hide my balding spot (thanks again alopecia), I typically wear my hair in a pony tail. Not very imaginative, but it solves my problem but leaves another one - how do you make a glam pony? Back combing can only work so much magic before you look Fran Drescher in The Nanny.

Tiffany from MakeupByTiffanyD on YouTube has a fast solution to putting a bit of oomph in your hair when you wear a pony tail:

Shoe Shock

Alexander McQueen, known for being quite avant garde, has released his latest collection which I have dubbed Alien Chic. Sure the makeup is slightly off-centre, the hair isn't terribly functional, but it can certainly be called artistic.

A wee bit too much highlighter?

Just in case your feet haven't quite succumbed to the latest fad of 10cm+ heels, he brings you what look like the most incredibly uncomfortable shoes on the planet (and beyond):

and just in case you feel like channeling a mermaid, my favourite:

Seems rather appropriate that he was playing Lady Gaga at the show, couldn't you see her wearing some of these?

NEW: Sportgirl Launches About Face

My memory of Sportsgirl cosmetics doesn't leave me racing to the local store to relive the experience. Tacky lip glosses & woeful eyeshadows bring back memories of teen years that I would rather forget.

Moving into the 21st Century, Sportgirl have released About Face - a range of 32 beauty products with a reasonable price bracket of between AU$7.95 - $16.95. Great for a girl on a budget.

There are a few brushes, some eye colours, lip glosses, bronzers and blushes. A fairly compact range, but broad enough to develop some more shades & products when it becomes more popular.

Not having tried them myself, from perusing their website my first picks would be:

Star Dust Shimmer Powder AU$12.95. Is it a blush, is it a shimmer powder? I can't tell but if it has one of the cool squishy applicators like the YSL Touche Blush, then I must try it. Only gripe is that it seems to only come in one colour.

All Nighter Fighter under eye brightener AU$12.95. Every girl over the age of 15 should own an under eye brightener. It is like an extra six hours sleep in every application & frankly, who wouldn't want that?! Seeing as though this one is about one-fifth of the price of the cult YSL Touche Eclat, it may well be worth a shot. Again, it only comes in one colour, so those of you who don't have a vampire tan like myself may be out of luck as it looks awfully pale.

The only question left is... how good are they? If you have tried them, let us know what you think in the comments.

NEW: Miranda Kerr Launches Skincare Range KORA

Australia's favourite country girl & Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr is launching her very own range of skincare products.

Named after a type of Tibetan Buddhism that both Miranda and her boy Orlando Bloom practice, Kora will be a 100% organic range of products.

She was reportedly very involved in the whole product process from concept through to formulation and packaging.

The Kora range is set to launch in David Jones (of course) later in October.

REVIEW: Dove Moisturising Cream Oil Body Wash

There are some great body washes available, but with some cost $30-40, I just can't justify that for daily use. I've tried a bunch of supermarket varieties and some are not worth even washing a rat with. What I need is one that is low cost, but does the job. How hard could that be?

I found one that was so delicious smelling, I've actually bought two more bottles. Dove Moisturising Cream Oil Body Wash in Cherry Blossom & Almond Oil smells amazing, lathers like nobody's business and feels dreamy on my skin even after I've dried.

The oil content seals in the moisture from the 1/4 moisturising cream so even if I forget to moisturise, I don't feel like a prune.

Scents include Rosewood & Cocoa Butter, Macadamia Oil & Pure Silk and my favourite, Cherry Blossom & Almond Oil.

You can find Dove Moisturising Cream Oil Body Wash at most supermarkets & chemists for around AU$5.95. The Cherry Blossom & Almond Oil scent is also available in 50ml miniature version.
